The proshtupulnik is among my favorite Bulgarian customs. It marks the first steps of a child, and the tradition calls for the whole family to come together. On this day the little one has to choose an object that will determine its future profession. The parents select the objects that are called for different professions in advance.
I planned my daughter’s prostupulnik with great excitement, and I gave a lot of thought about which objects to select and which professions to associate with them. Needless to say, I also prepared a special menu. I`m sharing it with you if you are looking for inspiration for your own special occasion.

Salad with beet, carrots and apple
You can make it with 1 beet, 2-3 carrots and 1 apple. It`s very simple – you have to shred all products, season with salt and mix. Then add olive oil and vinegar or lemon juice. You can prepare the salad in advance – the longer it stays in the fridge, the better it gets.
To prepare them I used cherry tomatoes and baby mozzarella. How to do it? Layer one cherry tomato and one baby mozzarella onto a toothpick, and repeat with the rest of products. Transfer in a plate and sprinkle with some olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
Nothing unusual here – you can make it with tomatoes, cucumbers, white cheese and olives. If you add good olive oil and balsamic vinegar, it will be superb.
It`s exotic, easy and tasty. How to cook it? You have to peel and blend 2 avocados (they should be soft and ripe) along with 1 clove of garlic, some red onion, half a tomato, a little fresh parsley, the juice of one lime, 1 tablespoon olive oil and a pinch of salt. I served the guacamole in a bowl and added sliced baguette. It`s best to prepare this starter immediately before serving.
